Brian Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 Well spotted Carlo.Ivan, does the hole in the tang look drilled or punched through with a hot punch? Drilled (a long time ago) is more even and regular and should be identifiable. Quote
vajo Posted March 7, 2018 Report Posted March 7, 2018 Hard to say Carlo. For me it looks not drilled. From the pictures the tanto looks nice. Quote
Grip Posted March 7, 2018 Author Report Posted March 7, 2018 Hi From my untrained eye I would say it looked punched as there is perceptive slanting of the hole where the punch has gone through. The hole is not what id expect to see around the inner edges if drilled, it looks uneven and not clinical. I have tried to photograph it but without success but its 2137 here so no natural light. Hope this helps Regards Ivan Quote
J Reid Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 Anybody else think the patina looks artificial? It's too uniform. I'm thinking it's been tampered with. 1 Quote
Surfson Posted March 12, 2018 Report Posted March 12, 2018 Looks like a yoroi doshi to me. Very stout and short blade. Yasurime makes it look late, and not koto. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoroi-dōshi Quote
