vajo Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 I saw this on ebay. Is it a genuine tsuba or fake? Quote
Henry Wilson Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Going by that one picture, I'd say real. 2 Quote
vajo Posted March 2, 2018 Author Report Posted March 2, 2018 Thanks Henry. I've been confused because of the color and the nakago ana. I think if its genuine it is a late edo/meji piece. But why it has the typical tracks of a iron tsuba around the nakago ana? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Chris, this TSUBA has lost its patina which is why it looks so different. I also think that it is genuine, but from the very simple design (NASUBI theme) it may indeed be a very late one. TAGANE marks are o.k. I believe and not restricted to iron TSUBA. 2 Quote
vajo Posted March 2, 2018 Author Report Posted March 2, 2018 Hi Jean, thank you. Another question is that style a special school? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Chris,TSUBA with very late manufacture date can often not be related to specific schools. However, I have seen the NASUBI theme on CHOSHU TSUBA, but then of course in iron. Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 3, 2018 Report Posted March 3, 2018 Choshu school tsuba are not limited to iron. -StevenK Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 3, 2018 Report Posted March 3, 2018 Danke Chris, BTW, due to your "Schariwari" comment the other day, I now know the proper name of the chain and charms worn on Lederhosen. NMB sure is grand! -StevenK Quote
vajo Posted March 3, 2018 Author Report Posted March 3, 2018 I ask the owner of the tsuba for other pics, maybe without flashlight. He sent me some other. That looks total different now. The pictures are a little unsharp but it looks much better what you think? Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 3, 2018 Report Posted March 3, 2018 The true color is probably something between the two extremes. -StevenK 1 Quote
vajo Posted March 3, 2018 Author Report Posted March 3, 2018 Thats true Steven. I think i will try it now to hold it in hand. The person who sell it said he is someone who make appartment evictions. He didn't know anything about Japanese swords. He sold some netsuke and other Japanese stuff. 1 Quote
vajo Posted March 8, 2018 Author Report Posted March 8, 2018 The Tsuba arrived and i felt that it fits perfect to my tsuguhira katana. What to say. It fits perfect, no mm space, what a luck. And the patina is very nice. Thank you for your input. 2 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 Glad it worked out Chris, looks good! -StevenK. p.s.-Color looks much better in your photo. Quote
