amc3 Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 Hoping someone can help ID this sword. It appears to be a Kyu Gunto from my research, but I am a novice so I'm unsure. Also not sure about the time period. I am also curious if anyone is able to translate the writing/markings on the guard pictured in the last photo below. Appreciate any insight you all may have. Thanks! Andrew Quote
Nihontocollector19 Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 looks to be your typical kyu gunto with company officer tassel no pictures of the blade ? seems to also have a famliy name etched on the side from what i see ww2 era Quote
Nihontocollector19 Posted March 1, 2018 Report Posted March 1, 2018 looks to also be damaged in the hilt area unfortunately i cannot tell you if its a family blade without seeing the blade further. commonly these were parade swords with a chrome blade but i suspect something else might lay in side. a for the famliy name my book is packed and i cant read it off hand im sure someone here can help with that Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Kyu Gunto parade saber, the blade will most likely be machine made with an etched hamon. Quote

J Reid Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Etched hamon on chromed blade. Very clean example though, imo. Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted March 2, 2018 Report Posted March 2, 2018 Standard parade dress saber with broken handle. Quote
