PNSSHOGUN Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 What on earth is going on with this sword? I've never seen so much stuff written on a blade before. Anyone care to translate? https://www.ebay.com/itm/H-6-Japanese-sword-in-mountings-Asakamaru-hitatsura-temper-horimono/232650252229?hash=item362b091fc5:g:IYEAAOSwp7tacldY Quote
Shugyosha Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 或遭王難苦 臨刑欲壽終 念彼觀音力 刀尋段段壞 Having found the last four kanji and googled the above magically appeared. It gets a lot of hits so I think its fairly well known and linked to Bhuddism. I don't have time to do a proper translation now but I think it hints at the sword being used to gradually break down ignorance and bring about enlightenment. 1 Quote

PNSSHOGUN Posted February 2, 2018 Author Report Posted February 2, 2018 Thanks for that Steve, half the Buddhist Scriptures he's popped on that sword! Not unusual to see small quotes, names of Kanon or patriotic inscriptions engraved but this is the first time I've seen such a lengthy and comprehensive one like this. Quote
