Polished Gendaito

Hey guys, saw this awesome gendaito in full polish. Should I get it?

I haven't seen the nakago but I think it'll be a highly ranked smith.

 

Showa22 is not a rookie trader. Or maybe that's the issue? Is it just to draw search hits?

The seller says hand forged gendaito in full polish and I see a tool steel blade without hamon in scratched war-time polish, which is what I expect from an NCO.  But I know nothing about Gunto.  Someone please tell me what I'm missing here.

They must have recently changed the dictionary definitions of Gendaito, Handforged, Mint and Full Polish.

Sorry Grey, I'm just poking fun because it's a standard Type 95 machine made, which is so far off the listing tags. To be fair, the description is accurate though.

But there is another Gunto too that he calls Gendaito with showa stamp.

 

 

I dont like the blades from this seller because they look allways the same after his treatment.

 

I know a guy in germany who polished in every sword a good looking suguba hamon. No matter what it was before.

Seems like I've seen something like this discussed somewhere. I think it was a blade presented to someone, like at a school, or factory, or something.

That's a good one Steve!!! My first reply didn't work, as I was trying to use the keyboard laughing emoji. This is odd because there is another thread where this dealer was getting good reviews. He either copied & pasted the wrong paragraph on the item description or clearly doesn't know what he is doing. But that would be odd because the guys that like him say he sells hundreds of swords.

and he does so that may be why he cant keep track of all his sales....ya think?

It will be interesting to see how much this sells for. I have read opinions on here that this sellers items sell for a bit above market value.

Well known sellers with constant stock a range of militaria do attract a premium. Probably for the ‘trust’ factor I'd hypothesise. It's far safer for newer buyers and worth the extra.

These polished blades are discussed hundred times. He knows what he sells. He is a trust seller but who ever polish for him do that like a fabric worker.

I've been lead to believe, he does his own polishing.

I've always been turned off his blades because of the polishing, makes them look like chinese swords with "Hybrid" sandpaper/acid polish.

 

That said he does have some really top notch unmolested blades on occasion.

Showa22 is a known shill bidder and you will never get a deal on anything he lists. He has accounts with high feedback that he uses to bid up his items. He had been a dealer on eBay for many years and has sold thousands of swords..
