Surfson Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Very attractive but big price. Is this a well known gendai smith? Quote
Surfson Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Thanks Steve. It's gorgeous, but if you are into gendai smiths, you can buy a Teishitsu Gigein or ningen kokuho blade for that price. Quote
tokashikibob Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 The Togishi really knew how to work the hazuya. Quote
Pete Klein Posted January 31, 2018 Author Report Posted January 31, 2018 Ono Yoshimitsu's katana 'pre-owned' generally sell for around 3 million yen and new around double that and higher. 1 Quote
Surfson Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Sorry, I thought I saw 1.8M yen. b Quote
Brian Posted January 31, 2018 Report Posted January 31, 2018 Joking aside, this is a stunning sword and by a master. I would give several body parts to own it.Is it really at $4K...because at that price it is dirt, dirt, DIRT cheap. Quote
Pete Klein Posted January 31, 2018 Author Report Posted January 31, 2018 For those unfamiliar this is an auction on Yahoo! Japan which ends Sunday at 8:44 AM EST USA. The current price is 418,000 Yen (around $3900) but it has four days to go and will go up. The auction is listed as being able to be closed early and extended past the close. Should be interesting to see how this one goes as these blades go for big buckage in Japan. PS: John -- Bidding start 10,000 Yen 開始価格 :10,000 円 1 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 Ono Sensei is my favorite of all the modern Yoshihara group. Just phenomenal work and agree with the above 600k is SUPER fair / cheap. 1 Quote
J Reid Posted February 3, 2018 Report Posted February 3, 2018 Such a beautiful sword. I've always been very fond of Ono yoshimitsu's work. He is very deserving of the title mukansa as his swords are perfect. Last one I saw was around 30k USD. If I had to take a guess, with the market as it is now, this one will go for somewhere between 18k-25k. Selling this early in the year is always difficult and usually you'll take a hit.. Quote
Pete Klein Posted February 4, 2018 Author Report Posted February 4, 2018 2,062,000円 -- winner got a bargain. 4 Quote
J Reid Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 Definitely a bargain. Low price tag, and one of the better yoshimitsu examples one could own... =JEALOUS Quote
Greg F Posted February 7, 2018 Report Posted February 7, 2018 The blade is gorgeous and the photos are perfect. Im dehydrated from drooling too much. Thanks for sharing this Pete. Greg Quote
