question regarding Yasukuni shrine

does anyone know they have artists on staff to do commission paintings ?

Do you mean like the painting which you have posted with your query?

I doubt that, they have calligraphers who do put seals and such in your travelogue if you are a pilgrim, most likely the calligraphy was painted first and then the yoroi added by another artist, can't say for sure I wasn't there.

 

Thinking of getting something like this done? Take the kid out of school donate ALL of his tuition to the shrine and you might be able to arrange it...

I know the painting and the caligraphy was done by two different person.

The " sho " was written by some " official " at the Shrine........

 

May be they have something like this for sale at the " gift shop " within the temple ground ?

p.s. just in case I offend someone about " gift shop ".......I am sorry, never been there so I don't know if it exists.

Yeah, there is one giftshop on the first floor of Yasukuni Museum, but nothing like this. They are mostly souvenir/gift stuffs.

The calligraphy was written by Ikeda Ryohachi (池田良八) who was an adjutant chief priest of the Yasukuni shrine in 1950s - 1970s(?).

Royal Homage. Tokyo, Japan: Shinto priest, Ryohachi Ikeda leads 9-year-old Prince Hiro, eldest son of Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko, through the grounds of the Yasukuni Shrine. The prince visited the shrine in commemoration of the 100th Foundation Anniversary, December 11, already assuming the fulfillment of expectations that accompany royalty. December 11, 1969.
