Ooitame Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 What do you all think? http://www.sword-auction.jp/en/node/3862/bids_list Quote
EastCoast Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Hey Eric - I was watching this myself. Not sure what is going on here. Quote
EastCoast Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Its keeps going up. What am I missing here? This is entertaining. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Good sword with 2 people who really want it lol, lets see if it makes 6 pages! 1 Quote
EastCoast Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 In the light pictures, it seems like it has some deep scratches and nicks (kizu) and can use a polish. After Shinsa fees and having a Shirasaya made, there is no long-term profit if the bidders would want to flip it. Not here in the US at least. Quote
Ooitame Posted January 26, 2018 Author Report Posted January 26, 2018 Its possible, unless there is something more. Quote
EastCoast Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 PNS, if this is the market for 1st Gen. Masanori, then I need to sell mine now!! LOL Quote
Ooitame Posted January 26, 2018 Author Report Posted January 26, 2018 Good show, congratulations to the winner. Quote
EastCoast Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 I'm still really curious what the overall appeal was. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Well, the point is that there are folks who buy swords by reputable smithes like 1st Masanori in reasonable Koshirae at around 300.000 Yen ... and then there might be folks who will spend the same amount of money on swords by below medicore or average joes guys work at best that is housed in junk koshirae. Isn't this amazing!? I would have bought the Masanori. The Koshirae wasn't bad. Only the Soten Tsuba wasn't a keeper. This smith has an excellent rating for sharpness which is a want have with many collectors. Infact I just bought one ... but it was a Katana. Quote
Alex A Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Aoi guarantee Hozen, whilst the sword is already with Aoi, shinsa is not expensive. Maybe someone just looking for a Ryo wazamono smith example, a draw for some. It was almost a katana in length, which I think is also a draw for folk on a budget shopping in the wak range. Not a great example, but overall, I think someone did ok. As for polish, not everyones bothered about a "minty" example, and perhaps they know someone who don't charge an arm and a leg, should they wish to do so. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Ryo Wazamono smith and an easy Hozon would have alot to do with it. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Well said Alex. Infact I was even considering buying this to set uo a Daisho with my recently acquired Katana but simpyl forgot about the auction. Quote
Alex A Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 I looked at it Luis, but ending way past my bed time, the lure of a good nights sleep seemed to outweigh it. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted January 26, 2018 Report Posted January 26, 2018 Well, we can not posses everything! Where shall we all place it! Quote
