sneakerd Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 1st post- I apologize if not enough info is provided. Was just delivered a 1941 Kanenori shin gunto purchased on ebay from a seller called "pcay". Anyone have an opinion on this swordsmith and the seller? Quote
Stephen Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 Sword will tell it its good or not, which way is it signed? stamp? Pcay is a trusted seller. Quote
sneakerd Posted January 24, 2018 Author Report Posted January 24, 2018 Thank you Stephen, I never doubted the seller, just don't know him. This is my first purchase from him. As I read more, I am finding the answers to my curiosity about Kanenori. I will try to post some pics for members to enjoy and/or comment on. Quote

sneakerd Posted January 24, 2018 Author Report Posted January 24, 2018 Supposedly yes. Signature appears similiar. Trying to post pics- not having much luck. Quote
Stephen Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 two diff smiths, one much better than other crop reduce and you should be good to go Quote
sneakerd Posted January 24, 2018 Author Report Posted January 24, 2018 This sword supposedly dated 1941. So most certainly the one with the signature shown on the left. Quote
IJASWORDS Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 Hi David, pcay has a good reputation. KANENORI was a very prolific sword smith, and I think every starting out collector of GUNTO should have one in their collection to study. He is very representative of his craft of the period. Quote

Windy Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 Never daft mate...an Oshigata book of Modern Japanese Swordsmiths...1868 -1945 By John Scott Slough Ah, cheers. Have heard it referenced many times. Quote
reeder Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 Kanenori has always gotten a lot of love and higher prices due to his rating in Slough's. He's a step up from the average seki smith, but far from a nice gendai. I have seen a couple of his star stamped blades and they were ok, but I would not expect them to sell for much more, if any, than his showa/seki stamped examples. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted January 24, 2018 Report Posted January 24, 2018 Pcay is a fine guy. I've both bought and sold with Pierre. Peter. 1 Quote
