Over the last 15 years or so on various stages of NMB, I don't think I have ever given my full support to a dealer before.

I recently had a  great experience  with the Murakami family at:

http://www.samurai-nippon.net/SHOP/109527/109717/t02/list2.html

They helped me procure an extremely rare daisho set- signed and dated, which further research with NBTHK will probably evidence as a commission of the Owari Tokugawa. It was a rare opportunity for me, and the Murakami family provided the gentle level of service that we historically think of as Japanese.

While Murakami-san does not speak English, the son Ryuta does and will assist with English inquiries. Please be patient.

This was one of the most pleasant transactions in years, with only Yashima [non-web present] providing similar kindness and service.

I A1+ recommend.

Now- I only wish I had gotten to their Kinju listing first:

22k for a Juyo tanto by the co-founder of the Mino school. I can count on one hand the number of Kinju juyo I have seen for sale over the last 15 years, and most were Tokubetsu Juyo.

Again, my heartfelt recommendation for their service.

Some macro shots of the daisho for Stephen. Dragons aren't my thing, but this pair will do.

Curran,

I, too, appreciate this advice. I have been rather afraid of dealing with 'serious' Japanese purveyors, but your advice makes it seem possible and wise. This site also seems very user friendly.

Most things in life are a mixed bag. I've dealt with quite a number of the dealers in Japan.

The Murakami family was repeatedly very kind in helping me.

Only Yashima has been as gracious, and that is a FAX or phone based correspondence. [Guido can correct me here.]

If they had an online presence, my wallet would suffer.

When uncertain with Samurai-Nippon.net, you can always write in English and use Google Translate to help give them a basic understanding.

I do this, though I sometimes have to edit the Google translation when I know it has odd errors.

Have been dealing with them for many years. I bought a great Tsunenobu tsuba and neat Iron Okimono of a puppy signed by the same artist from them at the DTI in November. Very nice folks and have been always satisfied with my purchases from them.

Hi James-

Thanks for writing in and confirming you have met them face to face. That is one of the great advantages of going to the DTI- getting to really know the people behind the shops. It definitely increased (and sometimes decreased) my willingness to work with certain shops.

Very nice to hear about your experience Curran. They have quite interesting items in inventory and while I am not shopping anything I still keep browsing them often as they have many interesting items.
