2 Items up on ebay now - need comments/opinions

Having no ebay sword buying expereince and only now begining to learn about nihonto I'd like to ask for comments/opinions on a couple of items.

Depends on what you are looking for? Both of these are likely to go higher than they should. The waki doesn't do much for me. Open grain, no wow factor. Average.

The shinshinto does look quite nice, but was probably an iai piece, and the fittings might be modern I think. Nice, but it will likely go over $2000-2500 probably.

Rather decide what you are looking for, what you want to spend, and then see if anyone here can suggest something. Better than fishing on eBay.

I'm also watching the first auction, mainly just to see where it goes, as the blade is quite pretty to look at. Showa22 is one of my favorite sellers to browse for eye candy, but most of their stuff tends to go for more than I'm willing or able to pay for it. I think Brian said it best, overall.

I'm new to the world of Nihonto but, I'd suggest saving up some money and buying from a reputable dealer (if you are going to buy a nihonto based on online pictures). I recently won a piece off of ebay from kofudo_jp. I could have done worse but, the pictures that were posted in the auction didn't reveal the scratches and ware that can plainly be seen in person. I'm not blaming kofudo_jp. I should have been more cautious. I would save up and make sure you get something that doesn't come to you needing a polish.

I've noticed kofudo auctions on ebay and they don't usually have good photography, not like some of the other regular dealers anyway.

 

Is there a general opinion of kofudo?

The seller showa22 is a joke. He had a Kotetsu sword on and I told him it was fake. He said he knew it was . Thing is that he sold it for $4,500.00 to some poor guy.
