matthew Posted November 16, 2017 Author Report Posted November 16, 2017 Thanks for all the input ,I'm finding it very interesting , I have been looking closely at the sword and noticed a badge on the handle mount , I have posted a picture , is this a family name/mark ? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 Matthew, yes, that is a KAMON, a family badge. They were widely used and after the SAMURAI era also by commons, so it will probably be difficult to relate it to the family of the former owner. I have tried myself to give a sword back, but to no avail. 1 Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 Looks like the Oda clan blossom, used by many Samurai families. 1 Quote
Geraint Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 Dear Matthew. So what you have is a nice example of a shingunto with a Showa blade, signed and of some interest, (There were at least three Kanetaka so some research here but it's not Matsuda Kanetaka). The koshirae is in good condition, it has a rank tassel and a silver mon on the kabuto gane. All in all a very nice package. Enjoy. 3 Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted November 17, 2017 Report Posted November 17, 2017 Hi Matthew your Kamon looks to be Maru ni Moko. Moko means Melon and Maru ni means contained within a circle. Cheers 1 Quote
