Alex A Posted November 12, 2017 Report Posted November 12, 2017 A sword turned up yesterday, with shrasaya and seperate koshirae with Tsunagi. The tsuba was packaged separately. When I try and take the Tsunagi out of the saya to fit the tsuba it wont come out, pulled as hard as I want too, don't want to break the tsunagi or split the saya. Unusual issue, any ideas ? Quote
uwe Posted November 12, 2017 Report Posted November 12, 2017 Seems that the wooden habaki was pushed in too far. Hmm..... Take a matching round bolt, shove it through the mekugi ana. Then hang it loosely in an vice or similar and hammer with an piece of hardwood carefully around the koiguchi. No better idea at the moment.... 1 Quote
Alex A Posted November 12, 2017 Author Report Posted November 12, 2017 Issue solved, put a screwdriver through the mekugi-ana and tapped down gently on a table, job done 2 Quote
uwe Posted November 12, 2017 Report Posted November 12, 2017 Great. I was obviously to late :-) Quote
vajo Posted November 12, 2017 Report Posted November 12, 2017 You must wait normaly because, the wood is swelling due to the differences in humidity and temperatures. It took 6 weeks for my Masataka to take the Sword out of the tsuka. Quote
SAS Posted November 12, 2017 Report Posted November 12, 2017 Next time , maybe try a hair dryer set on low and gently warm the saya. Quote
