mareo1912 Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 Dear members, I have a long term fascination not only for nihonto, but also for yoroi and other pieces. Now that I found two pieces I like, some opinions on quality and maybe an approximate price range would be very helpful. Also, you have some special advice on storing and caring for such pieces? And, are there any good books on restauration you can recommend. That's a lot of questions, but I want to be sure that I can treat these items right so that they sustain long after me ^^ Best regards and thank you very much, Marco 1 Quote
uwe Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 Hi Marco, both items currently on yahoo, if I remember well. The suji bachi is probably Haruta school in quite nice condition. For the eboshi kabuto I recommend to ask an restorer (D.Thatcher, Z.van Damme or R.Soans.....etc), for the work necessary to relace the shikoro and fix the lacquer/leather (hard to tell by the pics). Regarding the price range, I prefer to talk about via pm, because it's a pending sale. Maintenance of such items is not roket science. Just keep them away from sunlight and control the humidity between 45%-60%. If you end up successful, we can talk about details whilst going more in depth 1 Quote
IanB Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 Interestingly the Haruta suji kabuto has a shikoro that was designed to have cross-knots as revealed by the broken section of lacquer. An absolutely typical example of how parts were modified or re-cycled. The shikoro of the eboshinari kabuto looks very delicate and would need quite a lot of work to consolidate and repair the blown lacquer at the back. Ian Bottomley 2 Quote
