Ed Hicks Posted November 1, 2017 Author Report Posted November 1, 2017 While it is hard to see much the blade appears to be well made with a strong suguha hamon, but it's really tough to make much elae out. The habaki was what caught my interest. Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted November 2, 2017 Report Posted November 2, 2017 I really like that Fuchi. I've seen that symbol on the habaki before, it was on an Imperial household sword if memory serves me correctly. Quote
Geraint Posted November 3, 2017 Report Posted November 3, 2017 Dear Ed. So now comes the decision; restore or do what? Nice pair of menuki and some same, a good rewrap, find a suitable tsuba, little bit of work on the saya, oh and a polish of course. At the end you will have saved a sword, spent a load of money and hopefully have something really nice. Hosokawa mon on the habaki, very nice. All the best. Quote
Ed Hicks Posted December 5, 2017 Author Report Posted December 5, 2017 This is no keeper...Polish would be nice, but it does have a bend unfortunately. Ed Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted December 5, 2017 Report Posted December 5, 2017 A lost Kunikane........ sad Quote
Ray Singer Posted December 5, 2017 Report Posted December 5, 2017 Bends can often be resolved by a professional togishi. It is not necessarily a deal breaker. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted December 5, 2017 Report Posted December 5, 2017 This looks to me like a classic Sendai shinto. Thankfully it has a simple niji-mei signature so it can easily be placed in the "school" . As far as I can tell, the niji-mei could have been made by any of the 4-10 generation. The mon on the habaki is a a common Date family crest. Peter 2 Quote
Jacques Posted December 5, 2017 Report Posted December 5, 2017 Yasurimei, mei location are big red flags.. Quote
Peter Bleed Posted December 5, 2017 Report Posted December 5, 2017 Good eye, Jacques! The kiri yasurimei could be all right, but I had not noticed the ana in the jiri. That does look suspicious and I am sorry I missed it! The style of the signature looks all right and I have assumed that atomei signatures would present something more than just the two characters. If somebody was trying to fake this signature, why didn't they also just move the jiri up enough to lose the hole. Odd. Peter 1 Quote
Vermithrax16 Posted December 6, 2017 Report Posted December 6, 2017 Great eyes Jacques and Peter! Quote
