rgshelton24 Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 I am brand new to this. I purchased this knife this weekend and know absolutely nothing about it so I thought I would post a few pictures and see if I could get some help from members. I am interested in information related to history, age and Value. Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 Hi RG. You should sign your posts with at least your first name as per board's rules . When asking info on a blade you have to post pics of the whole naked blade cause nakago (hilt) is as important as the blade for judgement and understanding. with these pics IMHO your Tanto seems an assembled blade or a chinese fake. At best a "Kamikaze dirk",,, More knowledgeable people will chime in. Welcome to the board, Here you'll learn a lot for your future aquisitions, 1 Quote
Brian Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 Shrine souvenir or soldiers knife. Not traditionally made but possibly Japanese. Quote
Jean Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 Very, very, very regular hamon .. BTW, did I tell you I find the hamon too regular? 1 Quote
rgshelton24 Posted October 24, 2017 Author Report Posted October 24, 2017 Thanks for the information. I have attached a few pictures of hilt in case it helps for further information. Thanks, Ryan Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted October 24, 2017 Report Posted October 24, 2017 It's not unusual for the Chinese to make these fakes, Ryan, & you'll have to do some studying if you want to be able to recognize them. A good place to start is right on the NMB main page Under Research, Fake Swords, http://jssus.org/nkp/fake_japanese_swords.html. Welcome to the forum. Ken Quote
J Reid Posted October 25, 2017 Report Posted October 25, 2017 Looks like the standard machine made oil quenched ww2 kamikaze pilot Tanto, not a fake, to my eyes. They're worth between $350-$600 approx. Quote
vajo Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Looks not very Japanese to me. As Jean said the homon seems very regular, the chinese fake sword makers make some hamon with "Schablone & Schleifmaschine" The Sayagaki is funny, yes. Edit: I take a second look and see something like a horimono? Could you sent better pics from the blade, the nakago without habaki and the horimono? Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 Not a recent Chinese copy ... but junk anyway. Sorry to be blunt but that's what it is. Neither Art nor a Relic of value. Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 I have to be more precise. It does have some value of course. Likely 50 - 150 USD depending on your buyers willingness / interest. Quote
