Jean Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 Thanks Matt for this link, I was not aware of this auction. As I am not a specialist of tsuba or auctions in general’ what do you think of the estimations? Quote
TheGermanBastard Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 Some very sweet pieces. Espeically teh Tsuba. Wonderfull. prices seem to be too high atleast for my walltet but I believe that the estimates are too high in general, especially given you have to pay their premoum in addition. Seeing for example a Murmasa Yari with old papers makes me wonder ... Quote
Alan F Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 Check out Lot 419, Juyo Y. Ichimonji (Nanbokucho) http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/24721/lot/419/?category=list&length=10&page=12 If I am not mistaken, isn't that the same Nanbokucho sword and fittings that Fred Weissberg had for sale recently? It was discounted to $35,000 for a quick sale. Even if it sells for the low estimate, the buyer has to pay a 25% premium (plus taxes I suspect). They don't tell you what the seller's premium is. To answer Jean's question: I would think the estimates are a bit high, especially considering the current sword market and the economy. Alan Quote

Alan So that is atleast around 65.000 USD estimate inlcuding premium ... too much for an unsigned Ichomonji in my cheap oppinion. USD 35.000 is more realsitic in the current market. Quote
Jean Posted October 19, 2017 Report Posted October 19, 2017 Thanks Alan and Luis. Curran, Marius, Pete, other opinions on tsuba? Quote
