Kent C Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 Hello, I've always wanted a Japanese sword. I spent a year in Japan 1976-1977. I found this one and would appreciate any information or input. https://i.imgur.com/kJunzMW.jpg thanks --- Kent Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 Kent, your blade is, unfortunately, a Chinese fake, but welcome to the forum! It's too bad that you couldn't find someone who could have pointed you to real Nihonto during your year in Japan. Please set up your signature so that your first name appears on all messages, per Brian's rules. Quote
Ray Singer Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 A fake as others have said, but just FYI someone has copied an entire Yamano Nagahisa cutting test inscription on the blade. Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 Don't be discouraged. You'r in the right place to learn how to avoid such mistakes. Welcome to the board. Quote
NihontoNewbie Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 My first blade was a fake too. Someone has to keep the counterfeiters in business ????. Don’t feel bad it happens to a lot of people. Luckily I found this forum which is filled with not only tons of information, but also good helpful people that will reach out to you when asked. Good luck on any future Nihonto endeavors! Quote
Ray Singer Posted October 18, 2017 Report Posted October 18, 2017 For reference, your sword which has a tameshi-mei for Yamano Nagahisa dated May, 1664. Alongside, an authentic example dated August, 1664. 3 Quote
