mywifesgunakillme Posted September 30, 2017 Report Posted September 30, 2017 Never seen a scabbard covered in rayskin before. Does that date the scabbard? Unae to tell if blade is signed. Owner doesn't want to remove handle. Quote
Stephen Posted September 30, 2017 Report Posted September 30, 2017 Hiding something? the handle in its condition would slide off, id say nevermind if you don't want to remove. Blade pix? Quote
mywifesgunakillme Posted September 30, 2017 Author Report Posted September 30, 2017 Ok, so I convinced them to remove handle. It did slide off. It looked like it had a dab of glue holding it to the blade. Blade looks rough with a couple of chips near the tip. Sorry for the bad pics. I Don't see any sign of signature. Blade is about 20" in length. Quote
mywifesgunakillme Posted September 30, 2017 Author Report Posted September 30, 2017 Oh yeah....looking for $500 for it. The blade looks to show signs of hamon. So I assume it is nihonto. Quote
SAS Posted September 30, 2017 Report Posted September 30, 2017 Same covered saya may be an indication of a higher end sword, but not really an indication of when it was made. No pics of blade, so can't say anything...that handle is roached...if seller doesn't want to show the nakago, I would pass. Quote

SAS Posted September 30, 2017 Report Posted September 30, 2017 Habaki on backwards, missing a piece, nakago beat to heck, blade doesn't look like anything special, mismatched parts, unlikely candidate for restoration. Quote
mywifesgunakillme Posted September 30, 2017 Author Report Posted September 30, 2017 Yeah, it looks a bit rough. Probably a vet bring back from WW2? I figure it's always worth taking a few pictures and seeing what the experts have to say. Thanks for your input Steve! 1 Quote
vajo Posted September 30, 2017 Report Posted September 30, 2017 Looks like a mumei Wakizashi with a nice hamon in very very bad condition. Where ist the interesting to buy it? Yesterday you could buy a Koto Wakizashi here in the NMB for 600 GBP in fresh polish... 2 Quote
Stephen Posted October 1, 2017 Report Posted October 1, 2017 You'd really have to be a devotee to recuse this one with really nothing in return. 1 Quote
mywifesgunakillme Posted October 1, 2017 Author Report Posted October 1, 2017 I'll pass on it. Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll be back seeking your guidance on future finds. 1 Quote
