Sly Posted September 13, 2017 Report Posted September 13, 2017 Hi all ! Got this new blade recently. Wakizashi, nagasa 45 cm, ubu, hard to say about the jihada due to the condition, but hamon is hitatsura for sure. The shape is nagamaki naoshi. I think the blade is shinshinto, but I can't identify the swordsmith with certitude. The second kanji of the mei is mysterious. The first one is "Sada" I believe. Any help is welcome ! Quote
seattle1 Posted September 13, 2017 Report Posted September 13, 2017 Hello: While the blade appears to have the shape of a nagamaki-naoshi, and if we assume for purposes of illustration that the mei is original, something is probably wrong as nagamaki and naginata are signed on the opposite side. That might not be an invariant rule, but it is fairly general. The blade might just be a wakizashi from day one though probably not. Arnold F. 2 Quote
Jean Posted September 13, 2017 Report Posted September 13, 2017 Shobu zukuri, Sylvain, were it not for the yokote, but can have been added later.... Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted September 13, 2017 Report Posted September 13, 2017 Hello, Is it just my imagination once again running away with me or am I seeing the slight remnant of a yokote in the very last image? Also, is that muneyaki running all along the mune? Thank you. Quote
Jean Posted September 13, 2017 Report Posted September 13, 2017 That's what I was referring to in my post Franco Quote

Sly Posted September 14, 2017 Author Report Posted September 14, 2017 Back to our business... There is clearly a yokote on the omote side, but not that clear on the ura side. Agree with Jean, could have been added later. And yes, Franco, there are mune yaki all along the mune. I was believing it was one of the common features of the hitatsura hamon, doesn't it ? Quote
Jean Posted September 14, 2017 Report Posted September 14, 2017 In fact, muneyaki are part of hitatsura but do not imply necessarily hitatsura. Quote
