bobbernard Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 I recently posted asking for help identifying a sword and got a lot of quick and surprising feedback and I thank you for that. I am not a collector, but admiring Hapanese workmanship, I could not pass up this knife for $20 at the local flea market. I was hoping I might find some information upon removing the handles when I got home but was very disappointed. Nevertheless, I thought you might like (or dislike) seeing what someone did to a nice piece of steel. Let's hope that it was broken before it was modified. As you can see, the blade was ground, welded, and the edges along the handle , brazed. Quote
Stephen Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 Bob B Not really a good blade to start with so not a major disaster, but it shows ya what some guy do to their finds. Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 Creativity is not always good. However as Stephen said, not a major loss here. Quote
Okiiimo Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 It looks like someone recycled a broken blade. Quote
christianmalterre Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 and this dilettante recycled a old knifesharpener like this one here.... (variation of pommel- there were multiple...) ( variation of grip-Dito! i just actually have no picture...) Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 8, 2017 Report Posted September 8, 2017 Looks like the end of Type 95 NCO gunto! Like Allen said, if the gunto was really damaged, maybe he "made lemonade out of a lemon!" I hope he didn't just butcher a good gunto though! 1 Quote
jeep44 Posted September 16, 2017 Report Posted September 16, 2017 The verdigris around the scabbard rivets tells me this was done a long time ago-maybe some creative Seabee or a soldier with access to a machine shop? It was probably just a fragment of an NCO sword to begin with. 1 Quote
