Roland Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 "Rust removed on tang" = the blade is worthless! The rust on the nakago of a blade is an essential part of the nihonto. You would never have a chance to go with a blade to a shinsa (for getting it papered by NTHK or NBTHK) if someone has removed the rust. So just forget this "occasion" :-) Quote
Guest Nanshoku-Samurai Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Hello Roland, it sure hurts its value but does not necessarily have to render it worthless. It can be repatinated. But unless it is a valueable sword it probably isn't worth the hassle. Regards, Max Quote
Guest nickn Posted April 3, 2008 Report Posted April 3, 2008 i have repatinated nakago with great success and have had swords papered afterwards i have also had gimei removed in Japan repatinated polished and had the sword papered so a cleaned nakago does not make a sword worthless i bit cheaper yes Quote
swedish-daisho Posted April 4, 2008 Author Report Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks! It really breaks my heart to see what ignorance can do to a blad!! Why do anything...like that!?? If you dont know anything!! I´m traying to wait for my trip to Japan...next fall...but its difficult! Any input on the inscription!? Stefan (Nihonto-student in progress and agrivation) Quote
