As a scientist (molecular biology) I have to read stuff like this all day long, but after 20 years, most of the topics I read have little new to offer. This kind of study however, WOW! Fun!

I attached a PDF so let's see if that opens correct.

They scan a Koto era sword and a Shinto era sword, it''s a really cool study.

Yes, Carlo, that one image is worth its weight in gold! First verified example of shingane (i.e., kobuse)!

Our thanks to the owner, Boris Markasin, that managed the matter for pure love of knowledge. I wish I hadn't lost the contacts with him cause he surely continued his studies on Jokoto. May be Ted Tenold knows where he is now.

P.S. to be fair there were earlier images taken by Suenaga (hereunder) but this one is the first taken with technologically avanced instruments.

I knew this study. Francesco hold a short lecture about the subject at our "Japanese Legacy II" symposium 2016 in Florence. He used to do the same with a Saotome kabuto and presented the results in 2014 ("Japanese Legacy I") Great insights and new surprising findings!
