vajo Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 I bought a katana with an old blade from a member here some times ago. First i thought the koshirae is a new one, maybe showa or younger and the saya is some cheap china thing to put to blade in. Today i made some pictures from the blade in sunlight and after i took the blade back in the Koshirae i see that the saya is handmade with urushi. The Tsuba is also nicely iron made and it seems the rim is gold. The kogai also looks well made. So now i have some doubt about the age of the koshirae. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 6, 2017 Report Posted September 6, 2017 Hi Chris, All looks to be Edo Period sometime except for the saya which looks to be modern (the kurigata especially). But what do I know. Grey 1 Quote
vajo Posted September 7, 2017 Author Report Posted September 7, 2017 Thanks Grey. Have you some idea about the Tsuba and the Kogai? Quote
Grey Doffin Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 Maybe Umetada for the tsuba, maybe. Can't be much help with the kogai. Grey 1 Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted September 7, 2017 Report Posted September 7, 2017 Kogai is Goto in style, most likely a waki Goto school, not mainline, guessing 1750 or later. 1 Quote
