e-Raser Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Good Afternoon all, There is a Tsuba on the Aoi Art site Ref:FF07021, which is described as Nagashikomi (Boilerplate) way (sic). Googling only produced a metal frame used in the production of a particular form of Washi paper. What is Nagashikomi? Best regards to all Seen last week on the wall of a checkpoint near Bukhara: "SMOKING KILLS!" underneath in felt tip was added "A SOLDIER HAS NO FEAR OF DEATH" Malcolm Quote
docliss Posted March 21, 2008 Report Posted March 21, 2008 Nagashikomi is a new one on me. Does it, I wonder, mean 'cast' - the tsuba in question looks a bit suspicious to me! John L. Quote
Nobody Posted March 23, 2008 Report Posted March 23, 2008 Nagashikomi (æµã—è¾¼ã¿) is a general term which means “to run something into (something)â€. As for the Nagashikomi technique for the tsuba, it seems to mean casting as John said. In that usage, the term literally means “to run (melted metal) into (molds)â€. BTW, the term Nagashikomi seems to be also used in other fields such as some kind of inlay technique and plating technique. Quote
