Bruce C Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 Can anyone help with identifying this? Any ideas about history or approximate value? My father-in-law acquired it during WW2. Including the scabbard, it is about 14.5 inches in length. Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 Looks assembled with parts of different weapons to me. Is there a wooden scabbard inside the leather? Might be a field work of later period of WWII or something made out of "spare parts" for occuping GI's. Curious the "Tsuba" that secure the blade to the scabbard with a clip. Looks familiar to me, but just now can't check my books on WWII blades... Quote

Ken-Hawaii Posted June 23, 2017 Report Posted June 23, 2017 Welcome to the forum, Bruce. Your odd blade was likely cut down from something considerably longer. It reminds me of a ken (no relation) that has been heavily modified. Ken 1 Quote
Dave R Posted June 23, 2017 Report Posted June 23, 2017 To me this looks very like an old blade altered for use in WW 2. Ohmura san shows similar on his site, titled as "crew gunto". http://ohmura-study.net/977.html 2 Quote
Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini Posted June 23, 2017 Report Posted June 23, 2017 So this was because it looked familiar to me. Guess you nailed it down, a late war crew gunto in tanto lenght : http://ohmura-study.net/761.html Quote
