Hey all,

I have had a sword buy coming in from over seas (Aoi Art) but was scared it would arrive while I was off fishing last weekend so I had them hold the shipment. While on hold, I fell in love with a vintage Edo period (I hope) tsuba and figured why not save shipping costs and send them together?

It's not signed, so no help there. I love the octagonal shape and the subtle landscape engraving. Anyone have any info on this piece? Thanks in advance. I am not a fittings guy at all.

Jeremiah,

the photos cannot be enlarged, so no close-up possible to see the workmanship. It seems to be a very nice item indeed. There is a SAN SUI (mountain and water) scene depicted on the TSUBA which is quite common since the times of KANEIYE, but I think it is a later TSUBA, and this makes it difficult to name a school for it.

But if you like it, then it is fine - you would probably not love it more if it had a name on it!

Everything arrived safe and sound.

Hope these better tsuba pictures can result in some kind of information on this octagonal guard that I fell in love with:
