Nickupero Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 As the title says, any Tosogu connaisseurs care to give their opinion on this katana size tsuba? It's quite an interesting piece, not my area of expertise. Pictures taken with my iPhone so not the best colour/lighting. Quote
obiwanknabbe Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 im no expert but I know what i like... That sir, is an interesting piece and rather well executed by the look of it... Nice Whats the material? Kurt K Quote
Ford Hallam Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 I think you can find similar examples in both the Nara and Hamano schools. That doesn't mean it was either of those schools though, merely that the maker may have been inspired by this style of work. I'd lean more towards Hamano influence. Quote
Curran Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 The earliest example I know of is a Shimizu, -first in the Jingo line. From there, it spread out to multiple schools. You could get a Nara, Hamano, Shoami, or other 'close enough' attribution if there isn't sufficient evidence to pinpoint it. Here is one of several variations for sale: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x485467811 Quote
johnnyi Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 For what it's worth, there is a fairly new listing on ebay now of daisho tsuba of what seems to be this exact style. Possibly the seller of those has an opinion on school? (will send you link) regards, Johnnyi Quote

christianmalterre Posted April 28, 2017 Report Posted April 28, 2017 Hamano do compare the latter ones... Christian Quote
Nickupero Posted April 29, 2017 Author Report Posted April 29, 2017 Thank you all for your input, so leaning to Hamano, They do look real similar to the listing minus the shakudo spider. Quote
Dojikiri Posted April 30, 2017 Report Posted April 30, 2017 I saw one like this some years ago, also with inlay, it was signed by an Aizu artist. Alan Quote

Marc BROQUIN Posted May 12, 2017 Report Posted May 12, 2017 Hello, My first impression, before looking to the answer of Mantis Dude was SHOAMI (from the north AIZU or AKITA ?). This design is well known but not so much in this quality. Thanks to have shared your treasure. Marc 1 Quote
