The hamon in the kissaki comes awfully close to the edge. Indicates

reshaping to me but not uncommon on koto bades, of course.

The fuchi kashira and tsuba are nothing special to me.

One can find better packages for less money than the "buy it now"

price.

However, you may value the signature more than I do.

Hi,

The signature is Bishu Osafune ju Sukemitsu 備州長船ä½ç¥å…‰

According Jean (and some others) who is a specialist of Sue-Bizen, this Blade is gimei at 99%

So, a blade which can be gimei more a nakago which don't match = :?:

I have seen swords with OLD NBTHK papers that the museum say today will not paper (i.e. the judgement was in error for some reason)........ That is one reason they changed to the new papers.

Hi stephen and all others who helped by answering. The sword come from an italian dealer antiquity,he dropped the price from 7 to 5000 euros. He bought it at the world of samurai -

Unfortunately, there is no worksheet from the seller on this blade

For example, here is a link for a blade dated 1554 :

http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/sale/07192.html

As stated by Jacques, Have a look at the Nakago (length, Jiri), have a look at the sori which does not match at all the existing one at this period.

Just a precision, a mei beginning by "Bishu Osafune Ju ..." are not frequent at all but can exist at the opposite of "Bizen Kuni Osafune Ju ..." which are gimei at 99%, but this mei linked to Nakago/sori as was saying Jacques ......... :!: :!: :!:

I can't see the date, or much else but, except for a brief period where some outside factor made some papers suspect, were not the Kicho papers the only ones available from outside Japan shinsa? This confused me always as certain old papers are highly regarded. Does anyone really have a good handle on this? John

Hi Jean, I've read that article and it is a good one. I have some of those papers. I do not understand why these papers, in this case, are suspect. The date seems a touch early for this sugata but not outside the realm of possibility for Momoyama sugata. Likewise the nakago. I will not comment on the mei, not competent enough. What's the problem here? :dunno: John

John,

I am not competent enough to say if the kanteisho is good or not. System changed because of abuses that is sure, that is all we can say.

I don't know who have done the kantei (Nengo), but it is not Koji but rather Tensho, we are out of the great sue koto period for Bizen.

This blade has a Kanbun sori (very shallow). Nobody has talked about the hada, tell me what you see? We are not in the Bizen hada. Now, where are the ko-ashi and yo, I can see on a picture something like ara nie.

On whole, perhaps sho-shin but totally atypical for a sue koto Bizen blade (the one that everybody is looking after as the one in my above link), not worth 7000 Euros (10 500 $) IMHO :) :) :)

By the way second Sukemitsu blade discussed here :

Hi Jean, I was concerned with the reasons why the origami was suspect. I think this is just a kazuuchimono with nakirishimei. This would not be considered gimei then? in this case. Not sure how this would impact shinsa. I am not arguing the attributes of the sword. I just want to understand how reliable these papers may be since I have such and had relied on them. John
