James Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Hello NMB Members, I've just bought a tsuba signed 'Hikone-ju Souten'. Does anyone know of this craftsman and whether he is well rated? Here are two photos of my purchase. Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 Hi James, Soten I and II, his son are well known tsubako. They are from Omi no Kuni and lived in Hikone as retainers of Ii Kamon. Soten I lived until 72 dying in 1750. The 3d warrior theme apparently were not made by Soten II and very rarely by the shodai. Much is copied and not done by Soten and most signed examples are forgeries. The 3d carving has since been named hikonebori. John Quote
Brian Posted March 5, 2008 Report Posted March 5, 2008 James, Search the forum for "Hikone Soten" Quite a few posts about it. Hikone is the town, school is Soten. Lots of info on google too. Brian Quote
