East London 1+ Posted April 2, 2017 Report Posted April 2, 2017 Hi All I wonder if any of you knowledgeable members could clarify if the Tsuka is old or genuine. The same looks old and the wood looks right but the Kashira, Fuchi, Menuki, and Kojiri look like cast fittings to me. I am no expert and i believe Cast fittings were used in the later periods. I am adapting the Koshirea to make up an Iaito for Iaido practice and was just interested to know Sorry for the low quality pics Your help would be most appreciated . Thanks in advance. Geraint Posted April 2, 2017 Report Posted April 2, 2017 Dear John. This has all the hallmarks of a recent fake/reproduction. It's always about quality and this doesn't have it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you are planning to use this for Iaido then I would recommend you rebuild the tsuka core and start from there, no knowing what's underneath that wrap. All the best. Quote
Ray Singer Posted April 2, 2017 Report Posted April 2, 2017 Considering that it is a Chinese reproduction, I would not recommend rebuilding as an iaito. You do not know the integrity if the blade, and it is possible that the blade may break in the course of your practice and cause injury to yourself and/or others. 2 Quote
