Strider Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Hello all and congrats on the new format. Could I get some other opinions in this item on eBay 280204108276? The grammar in the description has me wondering if our friends in China are venturing into the project market also the mei looks too clean. Any opinions are appreciated. Regards Scott E Quote
Mark Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 i do not think it is Chinese. Looks ok, but these swords have a wide range of quality, probably a lot were made by students........ This one does not look very impressive, and the "pitting" looks like a forging flaw to me, so i think it more a poor example than a modern fake Quote
falconj Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 signature looks good to me, but once again advice is check check quality and workmanship with your references where possible regards John Quote
Brian Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 The only way to check is to compare the workmanship on it. Plenty of these are done by students and prisoners with assistance from Emura, so each has to be judged on its own merits. The last 3 papered Emura blades I saw were all signed "Emura saku" but of course there were many signatures. Oneday someone will examine enough examples to say for sure which signatures were by him, and which were by his students. Best page on Emura is of course on Dr Stein's site, and Ohmura-san also has a good section on him. Just search the NMB for Emura to find more info. Brian Quote
