md02geist Posted March 23, 2017 Report Posted March 23, 2017 Anyone happen to have one they'd like to sell? Neat blades! Quote
ggil Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 Diamyou54eb has one on eBay, but with odd papers and claim is marumachi but it has the Shinto masame in the shinogi ji, some hada ware, and therefore seems overpriced to me but I guess maybe they are rare??? Quote
md02geist Posted March 28, 2017 Author Report Posted March 28, 2017 They're somewhat rare yeah. That one on ebay is in bad shape and those papers are basically useless. 1 Quote
Peter Bleed Posted March 29, 2017 Report Posted March 29, 2017 I have no dogs in this fight, but if a guy was looking for a kikuchi yari, Daimyo-sama's little tanto seems like something worth a second look. It carries an old "white paper" that I assume means that somebody in 1967 thought it was intact and legit, and not retempered.. . The fullness of the hamon seems more - ahhh - suspicious than the remnant straight grain above the shinogi. Muromachi? If it is a kikuchi-yari it could be older than that. And who was making them after 1603? Peter 1 Quote
ggil Posted March 29, 2017 Report Posted March 29, 2017 If I could just like a post a million times! A good polisher could probably fix the ware, or stabilize and hide it (just guessing). The tip looks to be ~8mm thick too! You would think that would be specified? Quote
Ron STL Posted March 29, 2017 Report Posted March 29, 2017 Finally looked at the eBay kikuchi yari listing and thought it looked rather interesting. Lots of strong and distinct nioi showing all along the hamon. It would be interesting to buy reasonable and spend a few bucks to repolish it with new habaki, etc. Those appear to be the old "White" papers from the NBTHK that was the first level of papers issued. I think they were phased out around 1970, thereabout. Although the nakago doesn't appear cut off, it probably was a yari with a long nakago, made into a tanto. Might be a fun project for a younger collector. I myself have a similar kikuchi yari shortened into a tanto. Had it for many years and still enjoy looking at it. Ron STL Quote
Red Sun Posted March 29, 2017 Report Posted March 29, 2017 Could somebody post the link please? No matter how many times I look on daimyou54eb I cannot see the item. Cheers Quote

Red Sun Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 Thanks for the link Ray and when I click through from that link to sellers items I get 30 items that don't appear when I do a normal search from where I follow the seller! This seems to be happening a lot with ebay - i don't know why. As for the Yari - it looks like a polish might show some interesting sunagashi in many areas. Whether that leaves any meat on the bone as an investment I am not so sure - but overall I think it is a decent blade just a slightly high auction starting price. Quote
obiwanknabbe Posted March 31, 2017 Report Posted March 31, 2017 Can someone please explain to me why this is a yari and not a tanto? Im not familiar with this style of blade. Kurt k Quote

eternal_newbie Posted April 8, 2017 Report Posted April 8, 2017 There's one up for auction on Aoi-Art now: https://www.aoijapan.com/kikuchi-yari-kikuchi-jyu-koretada Interestingly, it's a shinsakuto yari (made in 2004) which I haven't seen very many of. Quote

eternal_newbie Posted April 12, 2017 Report Posted April 12, 2017 Some nice koshirae on that one Ray... I like the yanone fuchi/kashira, and it's pretty cool that they worked a yanone onto the rim of the tsuba too. Quote

Ray Singer Posted August 19, 2017 Report Posted August 19, 2017 Rob, in case you are still looking. http://nihonto.us/HIGO%20KIKUCHI%20TANTO.htm Quote
md02geist Posted August 24, 2017 Author Report Posted August 24, 2017 Awesome thank you Ray! I'm not sold on the old NBTHK paper and condition for that price but it's not a bad piece. Quote
md02geist Posted August 24, 2017 Author Report Posted August 24, 2017 http://www.e-sword.jp/yari/1710-4001.htm I liked that one a lot but sadly it sold before I was able to really look into it. The language barrier with that particular vendor makes it hard, I only know a little Japanese and they don't seem to know much English. Our communications were fairly confusing. Quote
