richlando Posted March 21, 2017 Report Posted March 21, 2017 I recently bid on a tsuba on a popular auction site but just knew I would not win with a low bid. But as luck? would have it I won. Can anyone help provide some insight as to period and style? https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2vJ_mqrjJBKOFNSYUc0QzNQcm8 It has some damage but has nice shape and nanako is very fine. It is so small the maker must have gone crazy making it. The size is 66mm x 60mm which in my estimation makes it wakizashi size? Quote
Greg F Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 Hi Rich, is it? Please sign all posts. Looks late edo to me. Congrats on the win. Greg Quote
richlando Posted March 22, 2017 Author Report Posted March 22, 2017 Greg when you ask to sign all posts I assume you mean add my name to end, I will keep that in mind. That was my first post besides my introductory post. Something about Moko? shape is attractive to me. My instinct says you're correct with late Edo. It looks to me to never have been mounted as I don't see any seppa wear or punch marks to fit tsuba. Is there a name for the punch marks? I assume so since the Japanese were so meticulous in everything they did. Rich L. 1 Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 You are fine. The name tagged on, plus being above your avatar is enough for us to know to whom we talk. John Quote
Brian Posted March 22, 2017 Report Posted March 22, 2017 It is always good to have an example like this, even if it has a little damage, just to remind us what good nanako looks like. I like this, think you did very well. 1 Quote
