Another "Buyer Beware" item! Proxibid offering this as a Japanese Samurai Sword. I sent them a notice about it. We'll see if they respond.

like many sellers they dont know or dont care. you are literaly wasting your time trying to educate them.

I actually feel quite ill when I see some thing like this. Not only is it deceptive, but some poor coot (probably young) could buy it for hard earned cash, and may be turned off collecting for life.

Its getting really bad with most auction sites. A local auction house around me had a out 20 swords, some traditional blades and Showa pieces. Descriptions done by a good swords guy with everything we look for. Auctions goes off well. The next two auctions they have are mostly Chinese fakes and rusty trash pieces and no reliable sword descriptions. Just fired me up they get one decent auction and try to cheat people the next auction. I even talked with the poeple around their descriptions and got the cold shoulder. I tried to turn as many away as possible, because alot of locals ask me if the auction is any good. I give them my honest opinion and some think I'm shying them away so I can buy them. Sometimes you can't win.

I haven't talked with the Proxibid folks yet on the phone, but I do know that they are just the auction house for other businesses that have large estates they are selling. I suspect that Proxibid just uses the descriptions provided by the sellers. I'll call them next week and ask about that.

auction house's, have been sued in the past, a very notable one in South Australia by a chinese buyer for a huge amount (millions) 

 

the only buyer beware is a thing of the past, auction houses must become more accountable or face the chance of lawsuits
