Hello all, I thought that you might find this interesting. I recently put in what was the high bid for some polishing stone pieces on eBay. The next day I was informed that my bid had been canceled. When I looked up the reason it said "these are not for guns". As I was selling some gun parts that I inherited at the same time, I think the seller looked up who was bidding and decided that I was undesirable as a gun nut or something. When I responded and told him that I also have a collection of Nihonto and it was not up to him to decide if I wanted these or not, I got this response. yada yada yada," Thanks anyway and I do not in any way promote the use of firearms in any circumstance. Also as far as phsychology is concerned guns and blades do not mix " ..I did not realize that I was such an undesirable and unstable Nihontophile. I then received another e-mail that said "if I still needed the stones, to contact him in week and he would set something up" .This seller goes by Hypnos420 and as far as I am concerned, he is entitled to his opinion, but he is not entitled to any decent, hard working, mentally stable persons business :soap: So much for my two cents worth Regards Scott

Thanks Scott. I am not going to go into the gun debate, but I hope the seller realises that many top dealers, JSSUS members and collectors also collect and/or study other weapons. I am sure they would be very surprised to hear that they are unsuitable to collect Nihonto

What amazes me most though, is that a person selling polishing stones to almost anybody, not knowing what blades they might ruin in the process..dares to suggest he has the interests of Japanese swords in mind?!

Y'know..freedom means he has every right to sell to whomever he wishes, and I would not argue at all with his right to choose. However that same right gives us, the customer, the right to totally avoid his auctions and mention his comments to others so that others can make up their own minds and choose whom they prefer to deal with.

I would like to add something here. I could be very mistaken, however, I would be willing to bet that I am not. Hypnos420, while hypnos doesn't necessarily mean anything the 420 in his name is most assuredly a reference that many people involved with a certain drug make. I certainly this a responsible person who collects both guns and swords is better off than one who uses illegal drugs and has swords around. I just find it funny that this person would discriminate, not that I support guns or don't support peoples right to use drugs in their own free time.
