kissakai Posted January 25, 2017 Report Posted January 25, 2017 I wondered about buying this tsuba as I bought the one below about a week ago and know nothing about it As some had mentioned the horse tsuba I have attached mine The patina is better than shown in the image 1 Quote

Dojikiri Posted January 26, 2017 Report Posted January 26, 2017 Hi, To me it looks like a casting even if it has copper sekigane, the surface does not look right. Alan Quote
Stephen Posted January 26, 2017 Report Posted January 26, 2017 Christian, you need to quit horsing around Quote
christianmalterre Posted January 27, 2017 Author Report Posted January 27, 2017 Dear Gentlemen, you are right of course in inquiering here on this piece! no problem at all! I would do equal! this Tsuba is definitely forged! there are several lamination folds to ben seen in the mimi and in the inside of the Ana.... equally this Tsuba has got a very high ring sound if tapping it..... if this would be a cast one - i very certainly would not have offered it for sale! (as, there is still my name standing behind a sale!) the patina is equally authentic- these coulor-divergences from grey to blackish tones to ben visible on mine pictures i took...most probably do result from the light situation and the camera flash.... there is equally no sign that this Tsuba had a missing object like a rope...there is no evidence such had ben there once.... no, no worry at all! this is a authentic antique Tsuba in very nice condition! i do repeat me- i had not offered it if i had any doupts myself! and i think i do know of what i am speaking...collecting me Tsuba since many years.... kissakai Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Hi Images can be a pain as my horse tsuba looks to have a poor patina but much better in hand I must take some better photographs) I feel sure Christian would not sell a dub on the NMB but even so if it was me I would still welcome comments on anything I posted In my opinion the NMB is still the safest way to buy Nihonto 1 Quote
Greg F Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Alan i cant see why you would think its cast. Could you please explain? Im quite sure Christian wouldnt sell it here if it was cast and if so he would say so imho. Greg Quote
hxv Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 I am with Greg on this one. It's quite a nice tsuba. Hoanh 1 Quote

Dojikiri Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Greg et al, It is just a feeling really, a lack of definition of the surface, I didn't like what appears to extra metal on hoof 2 in image #1, though this could be rust, likewise a triangular raised patch on the lower left seppa-dai on image #3 (firescale?) (Paranoia?). Of course I am probably completely wrong and the tsuba is OK, that's the trouble with not handling a piece and just looking at an image. think I am also Influenced by the tsuba like this that I have seen over the decades (the single horse/ox/fish/snake in the round), over half of which were castings for the tourist trade. I hope this clears up any doubts that I may have raised. Alan Quote
