Ignoring the mei.

Looking at the three mekugi-ana/sugata, reminded of a late Muromachi uchigatana, someone jazzing it up with a fake mei at one time maybe, dimensions/better pics would help.

Sticking my neck out here as I cant really see the blade lol, but from what I can see, it looks ok. As long as you didn't break the bank to buy it then I guess its not the end of the world.

Nope didn't break the bank.

Got a deal way below offered price.

Actually going to use it as intended in my retirement.

Thanks for the responses.

No opinions about the blade, though the blades in these walking sticks are usually chosen for their shape more than historic importance.  However, I love the piece, and wouldn't mind having it to walk around the streets of Chicago at night!   These usually go for $1000 to $2000 in good shape.  If you don't mind my asking, how much did it set you back?

$2100 including post, the koshirae was a big point for me.

Blade in excellent polish, and no nicks or bends.

Seen the higher quality ones at e-swords Japan run 3000-4000+.

Indiana laws are good on sword canes, excluding state and federal property,

Good to have with the Mall riots now becoming a common nuisance. ;-)

Gonna carry this one, so high collection value was not a major concern.

I was looking for a more utilitarian piece.

I saw that on eBay. Hilarious. Buy first ask questions later is not a good strategy. Books books and more books. Buy a book and (with a little imagination) you own all the swords in it.

I purchased this as a utilitarian  piece.

Just curious about its possible lineage.

It won't be displayed next to my Hozon papered Yasukuni-to Gendaitos.;-)

Most of Japanese sword canes have poor quality wakizashi blades. Most of the koshirae are modern. A few have katana blades, in this case some quality blades can be found. Japanese dealers have found there is a western market for such blades/koshirae surfing on Zatoichi pictures success.
