johngdo Posted December 20, 2016 Report Posted December 20, 2016 This is a mumei naginata naoshi. It is housed in a fantastic koshirae which is in great shape. The koshirae features a set of crane motif menuki, a beautiful old tsuba, a solid silver "raindrop" habaki, and a gold foiled "cross-hatch" fuchi. The blade is also in fresh polish. There are a couple of small issues which I tried to portray in the photos, but all in all a very nice polish with very prominent hada and hamon. The blade is extremely heavy, and is very thick, measuring 1/4" thick. It measures about 11" long, though this length is of course practically decreased by the extreme curvature of this blade. The overall length of the sword in it's koshirae is just under 17". The cutting edge does include one chip which is shown in the photos. This piece was listed on eBay, so it may look familiar from there. The price is $1150 shipped. please let me know if you have any questions. Ken-Hawaii Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 So you're charging eBay prices to NMB members, huh...? Ken
Brian Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 Before Ken comes across as rude, he has a point in that you are asking R1100 BIN, and with shipping, that would come to $1150 or less. The price you are offering it here for.It is customary (although not compulsory) to offer a better deal to members here. That is the polite thing to do on a free forum that offers free advertising directly to your market. And since you are also offering the "Make an Offer" on the auction, it is presumed that you would go lower..probably to $1000 at a guess. So perhaps an offer to the members for your lowest price right off the bat would have gone down better. Since eBay fees would be about 10% or more, that means you would get $900 off a $1000 offer there.Again, nothing compulsory...we just like to see our members offered great deals, and in return you get great exposure and future business. What's that they say? Use it, don't use it, your call ....
Shugyosha Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 That ain't a sword, that's a banana.
Red Sun Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 All seems a bit harsh - Johngdo does say he is not a dealer but a hobbyist and that he is open to offers. However the banana comment made me laugh. A lot. Really a blade like that is more practical as a polearm, but the koshirae is good and its a nice package for that price surely. Good luck with the sale.
johngdo Posted December 22, 2016 Author Report Posted December 22, 2016 The sword is a bit on the bizarre side, I absolutely agree. I've never seen something quite like it. I did not mean to offend anyone, I was just listing my obo asking price. The lowest that I could go right now would be $1000 shipped.
Shugyosha Posted December 22, 2016 Report Posted December 22, 2016 Hi John and Red Sun, I'm sorry I didn't mean to be harsh - just what passes for my sense of humour. There was a similar sword in here recently which was a commemorative blade linked to an event in some Daimyo household. That's if my memory holds up. It might be worth researching further as, with special order blades, smiths sometimes make two or three examples and then choose the best for their client. It was made this way and is not "naoshi".
