stephan_hiller Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Hello, some years ago I aquired a nice Hizen Katana with NBTHK papers. The signature on the nakago reads 'Hizen (no) Kuni Masamitsu' but there are also to kanji characters on the other side which I can not read. Can anyone help me with the two characters and their meaning? Many thanks, Stephan Quote
Nobody Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 reads Gokoku (護国), which means "to defend the country". Quote

Martin Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 Hi Stephan, I was actually asking myself if it wasn´t usual to put the signature on the omote side. At least that is what I always thought was the standard. On your sword it just seems to be the other way around. Does anybody know if smiths sometimes signed their blades on the ura side? cheers, Martin Quote
