CSM101 Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 Hello, at the moment I have a wakizashi at home. Hirazukuri, nagasa 38,8 cm, sakizori. Special feature is: you have two different kind of steel. The upper part is in itame, the rest in masame. My question is: do you see that often or is this a a trademark of a school and time? Thank you for your help! Uwe G. 3,16 MB download: http://daten-transport.de/?id=7NPUV3gJXE6D Quote
Stephen Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 Uwe The link is not working for me. Quote
Ray Singer Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 Photo attached. Itame/mokume in the ji with masame along the edge is, among others, a trait of some Yamato blades (specifically Shikkake). Your sword does not look like a Shikkake though. Can we see a more complete photo?Best regards,Ray Quote
John A Stuart Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 Is that boutsuri I see? John Quote
Stefan Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 Shikkake with Sakisori ? In the later works the feature dimished. Why not Mino ? I ve seen this several times before on such blades. Quote
Jean Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 I'll go for Muromachi Mino. Is it possible to have a picture of the full naked blade? Quote
christianmalterre Posted November 29, 2016 Report Posted November 29, 2016 obviously this blade has got a relatively strong sori? (without seeing it "nude" (as Jean did request it above )... i´d tend for Sue Seki here immediately.... Christian Quote
CSM101 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Report Posted November 30, 2016 A full lenght photo? Maybe in the afternoon. Uwe G. Quote

CSM101 Posted December 1, 2016 Author Report Posted December 1, 2016 Thank you all for your help. Masame in the shinogiji is usually more common and a honsanmai construction in a hirazukuri blade confused me a little bit. Some words about the blade. It is signed with a single kanji: Sa. I know, that there are several generations and Oishi Sa, etc. But this one is not Soshu. But still a blade to enjoy. Uwe G. Quote
christianmalterre Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 May i ask this humble question - "why should be a masame be usually more common" in the Ha- perishere??? who told you this? certainly, this would cause letter "work"... i do agree here. it but not certifies it is a real Sue-Seki (Sue Mino) me Quote
CSM101 Posted December 1, 2016 Author Report Posted December 1, 2016 I just saw this in several Mino blades. In one of my first katanas it was very prominent. Uwe G. Quote
