Purchase Evaluation Help. Rai Kuni?

hello.

 

this is a possible purchase for me. the seller does not know much about the sword. it's in rough shape but we have some information to go on from the Saya and Mei. could it read rai kuni ...? it looks like koto steel but its katana meI and it seems like the rai school was tachi and tanto.

Rai Kunimasa but like you said katana-mei so not Rai School.  No idea who this was.

odd signature rigjt? I can find no smith with that name.

The rust will disappear with a polish but given that this is a wakizashi with a fantasy signature in shairsaya, there is little chance the blade is worth even close to the cost of polish.  Don't spend much if any money on this; there are far nicer blades to collect.

If this is your first prospective sword, my advice is to pass. Cost to restoring and end result not likely to please you.

no. would be #4. I've passed on it. it just intrigued me. the mei vs. the blade characteristics and what it really was or was not.

Not anyone I've heard of out here. But with 100% positive feedback since 1999, he can't be too bad.

Probably a so so blade in a shirasaya made for another sword, with a poorly cut gimei. Kind of reminds me of the mass produced Sukesadas.
