DirkO Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Hey guys, I'm looking into buying this wakizashi but I'm not that good at reading origami. I can make out issuedate and length, but that's it. I want to see if the description matches the origami. Seeing it's mumei I'm particularly interested in what the column for mei says. Do they attribute it to some den or smith ? Quote
Jacques Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Hi, This wakizashi is attributed to Sue Tegai school (Yamato) His lenght is around 40,6cm Date of origami is 2003, march 31. Quote
DirkO Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 Date and length I had :-) The school i didn't know. Merci beaucoup Jacques! In the explanation it said Tegai, but Sue Tegai also dates it to Muromachi, now I know what characteristics to look for. Quote
benkyoka Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 If you do decide to purchase this blade, could you post some pictures of it here, please? I have a katana attributed to the Sue Tegai school and would like to compare. Quote
DirkO Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 Sure no probs. Even if i don't buy it, I'll put up the pics I have for you. Just takes some time to find them all Quote
DirkO Posted February 3, 2008 Author Report Posted February 3, 2008 I bought it btw, for a fair price on yahoo Japan :-) Quote
benkyoka Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 I bought it btw, for a fair price on yahoo Japan :-) I thought that was illegal. If I recall correctly, traditional weapons like nihonto are not supposed to be listed or sold on yahoo. Quote
DirkO Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 seriously ? I mean there are quite a few listed there. Like pages and pages of them. Same for tsuba and so on ... And a lot of them have origami. Seeing the favorable position of the euro vs yen, I thought it to be a good place to shop and maybe try a little gamble. Quote
DirkO Posted February 4, 2008 Author Report Posted February 4, 2008 I do my shopping through http://www.japanauctioncenter.com coz they're somewhat cheaper than rinkya if i remember correctly. First time I buy an actual blade there though (usually tsuba) but they've always been exemplary in their service. On a related matter: were the pics helpfull ? And would you mind posting pics of your blade so I can compare it with mine, once (if) it arrives? Quote

Here's the link. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1387&st=0&sk=t&sd=a The pics were helpful. If you could post a few more pics of the hada when it arrives, I would appreciate it.
