Resize them to max width of 800 pixels if you want them to show complete instead of the link (same as the last forum) but that is a beautiful kogai Pete!

Domo -- this futatokoromono is by Shirobei Goto Kenjo (VII) and is from the Mosle' collection. I found it interesting that it was not included by Mosle' in his 1914 publication of plates to illustrate pieces from his collection exhibition book (Berlin 1909) but I have a bit of a theory on this. Apparently he believed them to be by Eijo (VI) about whom he spoke to the Japanese Society of London, "His work is not so characteristic as that of his predecessor, and he was the weakest amongst the first six masters". These have since been attributed (NBTHK) to Kenjo about whom Mosle spoke more highly. I have to wonder if had he known this he might have included this set in the 1914 publication? :dunno:

And yes Paul, that highlight is because the picture was nabbed from Fred Weissberg's site, http://www.nihonto.com.

PS: it is published in the 2004 book by Izzard on his sale.
