Steve Waszak Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 This tsuba had been sold, but the buyer was unfortunately not able to complete the purchase after all, so I am re-listing it here. This is a small (6.5cm x 6.3cm x 5mm) but compact and powerful iron Ohno tsuba, dating most likely to the late-Momoyama to early-Edo period. Ohno tsuba were products of Owari province, and are seen to be rather closely associated with Kanayama tsuba, which of course are also Owari province works. Ohno guards are famed for their very strong, compact forms and their bold, direct designs. This piece features a triple-tomoe motif, accented wonderfully by large and small tekkotsu which appear to have been polished to off-set the typically "cloudy" or "sandy" surface texture of the plate. The kogai-bitsu is plugged with shakudo. Despite its relatively small size, this possesses a very strong, martial feel. An excellent piece. $425 plus shipping. Cheers, Steve
