Nickupero Posted August 25, 2016 Report Posted August 25, 2016 Am I reading this correct? did Sukeyoshi make this at the age of 88 years? If so its pretty interesting as it would have been at the very end of his life as the blade is dated 1914AD... to have seen and lived through Edo, Meiji, Taisho must have been something! 3 Quote
SteveM Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Yes, your interpretation is correct, but take a look again at the Taishō date and your western calendar date. Quote
almeister Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Hi Nick , Yes , hachi ju hachi - 88 However, as Steve says : 3rd column in from right (as you know ) Taisho "ju (+) " + san = 13 Taisho started ruling from 1911 (if I'm cortect ? ) So - Taisho + 13 years = 1924 ? It is brilliant to see blades made from Smiths @ this age - so we all obviously eagerly await some pics !! Cheers , AlanK Quote
John A Stuart Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 1912 so add 13-1/ 12 1924 John Quote
Nickupero Posted August 29, 2016 Author Report Posted August 29, 2016 Oops, yes forgot the "Ju", so focused on the age I missed that kanji altogether. That makes much more sense though on his timeline, since he started in Bakumatsu period. Here are some pics. Thanks Steve, Alan, and John for your input. 3 Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Pretty! Nice pick up Nick. Can we expect to see this in the for sale section? Quote
almeister Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Hi Nick , Stunning blade as always - Thanks for sharing ! John , Thankyou for your formula! I have several Taisho blades & keep " sub consciously " telling myself "Taisho - 1911 " so all my ages etcc are consistent - however as we know - at the time they start is considered "year 1 " - so to be subtracted Thanks Again ! Cheers , AlanK Quote
Nickupero Posted August 30, 2016 Author Report Posted August 30, 2016 Thanks Alan! Thanks Joe! it is actually already for sale on my site... I didn't want to overload the for sales section of the message board so I didn't list it here. Rule goes for every item you see listed on my site its cheaper for NMB members, and I'll include a donation if the Message board has any involvement. Here's the koshirae with fittings that are antique which is funny because the blade isn't. 1 Quote
Greg F Posted August 31, 2016 Report Posted August 31, 2016 Hi Nick the sword looks great as does the koshirae. Just spotted a typo of little importance on the description on your site it says 1924 and in the info its 1914. All the best. Greg 1 Quote
