Klaver Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 Hi all, A new friend of mine brought over some of his treasures which he owns already for many years. However he does not know anything about those swords and objects besides the facts the likes them. I am trying to tell him some more and here are the things I am pretty sure about. Its a masame itame hada, the blade is mumei unforturnately and not papered, because of this I think about Soshu school (hada). Its a gunome hamon and I think sunagashi, the blade itself has some sunagashi elements I think. Its very active with the right light. The polish is not to great and I also discovered some small litlle cracks running lenthwise which indicates the swordsmiths skills, I think. Many thanks already. Quote
ggil Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 Looks like a very active and well hardened hamon. Don't see the flaws you mention. habaki is extra nice so indicative of a decent blade too. I dare say this is a really nice blade (given the pictures aren't good enough to see the potential flaws like lack of a boshi even). I am nowhere near knowledgable in schools/smiths, but can venture a GUESS that it was made 1500-1700 by shape and nakago patina/yasurime remaining. Quote
David McDonald Posted August 19, 2016 Report Posted August 19, 2016 Dear Jordy The tsukamaki is of the hineri-maki style and nicely done. Good luck later david Quote
