Fuuten Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 I think we'll be better of waiting for Ford. Did they ship it in the box like that lose hanging peg in the background? 1 Quote
Stephen Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 Shipped on peg, it dont take anything to knock off the post then the more back and forth the more damaged is done by nails!!!, Yes Ford San please advise Quote
Fuuten Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 I think i saw that post by Grey on his website a long time ago. About not shipping in a box, but separate. What a shame 3 Quote
ggil Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 amateur hour, damn! Any other damage besides what is seen? Id take the insurance money and...buy another ! looks like it could have been WAY worse though! Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 Hello, Yes, always ship tsuba wrapped separately regardless of box. All fittings should be wrapped individually as well in or out of box. Stephen as you gather estimates Brian Tschernega does restoration. 1 Quote
Stephen Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 yea well 99% of the damage was/is confined to seppa dai so it should not show mounted. Id be happy to have back what i paid over to get it back. Think twice before you sell one close to your heart. As Grey can contest he reminds even seasoned collectors, as i should have. I have even received from Japan like above, iron but marked none the lest. He insured for 500, Im not sure the USPS will honor being it was poorly packed. Quote
Ford Hallam Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 why send the box in the first place? And panic over folks ...this scratch can be made to magically disappear. Back in the day traditionally trained craftsmen in old Japan did this sort of repair every day. 5 Quote
Stephen Posted August 3, 2016 Author Report Posted August 3, 2016 yep kind like shutting the barn door after the fact, i may send to you next year it that works with you Ford. 1 Quote
Grey Doffin Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 I will never understand why people who collect tsuba put up with these piece of s__t boxes. It would be so easy to make the boxes with the center posts secured by wooden pegs or cord; why settle for something that cause such damage? We should have a thread with a picture of the damage pegged at the top of the Tosogu Forum. Feel free to use the picture from my site: http://www.japaneseswordbooksandtsuba.com/store/tsuba-%26-kodogu/t167-dont-transport-tsuba-tsuba-box Grey Quote
Stephen Posted August 4, 2016 Author Report Posted August 4, 2016 If pinned you may use my image as well. Quote
vajo Posted August 4, 2016 Report Posted August 4, 2016 All of my boxes are these expensive, cheap made ones with nails. I hate them. The price of these boxes variates only in the color of the filling pillow not in the quality of made. Someone could be rich by making better boxes and collector cases. 1 Quote
