vajo Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Hello, i search for a polisher in europe to avoid any postal, customs and tax difficulties. It must not be a high end polish. The blade is a mighty dotanuki katana from munehiro. It is nice, but it has a big chip and two bents and no saya. I think that this blade will not have any high collecting value, but i love it and would spent money to it to see it shining again in a shira saya. The costs to ship it to Japan with all the customs export and import fees is too much for me for this project. I would be pleased if someone in europe is interested to do this job. Gunome Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Hello, It is nice, but it has a big chip and two bents and no saya. Your bents look like hagire. Hard to polish and not sure it is Worth a polish. Sébastien Quote
vajo Posted August 1, 2016 Author Report Posted August 1, 2016 Hi Sebastian I mean bents and that what you see is not hagire It is only on one side. Quote
uwe Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Hi Chris, I almost bet a box of "Augustiner" that these two cracks are Hagire. Anyway, I know Zénon quite well, if you have some problems to contact him. Although, for this blade, I would recommend S.Wuttke, situated in Berlin! Quote
ROKUJURO Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 Chris, what a pity! On the photo it looks as if someone has hit something hard with the blade. The bends and the chips are a result of such a rough handling, and it would not surprise me to see HAGIRE in exactly this place as another effect. A good polisher will see more, I am sure.... Quote
ggil Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Chris, even if the crack is part way through, if the crack extends into the blade (if it isn't purely a surface effect) then functionality is compromised. Maybe only destructive testing would show how much. The polisher would know right away if it's just a scratch or a crack (they would try and remove it probably). Probably it's simply scratches and the 100kb pictures make it look hagire all the way! 1 Quote
vajo Posted August 2, 2016 Author Report Posted August 2, 2016 Jean & others. I was asking for a polisher from Europe. Sorry but the blade was inspected by a very competent member from this board. And there is no hagire and no fatal damage. It's a little unfair to judge about the blade only from a photo, not knowing it. Thank you for help Quote

Brian Posted August 2, 2016 Report Posted August 2, 2016 Chris, Please give us a little background on your Nihonto history and experience polishing please. Obviously we require this if someone is going to advertise his services, as our first thought it to do no harm to blades. http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/15766-mr-siliacus-sword-polisher-in-the-netherlands I am sure you understand that.
