manfrommagnum Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 I am looking to buy some microfiber cloths for wiping nihonto down. Where is a reliable source that does not shed or scratch? Thanks! Mike Quote
Derek Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 I recommend Microdear. They are really nice. Something like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Microdear-Microfiber-Deluxe-Cleaning-Cloth-PRO-CP-MDC-L-/331912013144?hash=item4d477f6558:g:qqYAAOSwRgJXjNCy Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 All of mine have come from ADORAMA CAMERA, https://www.amazon.com/Microdear-Microfiber-Deluxe-Cleaning-Cloth/dp/B0002E3WGI They are washable, use a non chem fragrant free detergent like Arm and Hammer that leaves no residues behind that might cause problems. 1 Quote
pcfarrar Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 $67 shipping to the UK, bit of a rip off. You can buy them on Amazon.jp but for some reason they won't ship them to the UK. Quote
Gilles Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Same for me Peter. Amazon asked $79 for shipping to France. Thus, I give up. Quote
Stephen Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Problem is even if you have a friend in USA ship FRB its still 35$, Quote
Daso Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Couldn't a friend in the USA just throw a packet in an envelope and mail regular international post? Quote
Stephen Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 might be worth a try, ive had so many envelope packs tore and opened i always try to send in box. Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted September 18, 2016 Report Posted September 18, 2016 Hi Peter., I don't know the Microdear cloths. Speaking from my own experience, Selvyt is a really good product, I use it on Nihon - To; I also use it on sterling silver, 18 and 22 carat gold and gem set items, (I don't mix cloths however, one for each specific material). I always check stone settings and mounts with a 10x loupe after cleaning, it does not seem to mark the surface as far as I can tell. (It is also used on Panavision & Arriiflex Lenses in the Movie Industry). Cheers Quote
vajo Posted September 18, 2016 Report Posted September 18, 2016 Micro Fiber for nihonto? Micro Fiber holds fine particles. I think to use it is the best way to ruin the polish? Quote
Gordon Sanders Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Which one do you normally get http://www.selvyt.co.uk/selvyt-cloths/polishing-cloths/ ? Quote
Dave R Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Micro Fiber for nihonto? Micro Fiber holds fine particles. I think to use it is the best way to ruin the polish? There are some long conversations on this site about cleaning and maintenance, and no wonder with the money a polish costs. Look them up, and come to your own conclusions. I will point out though that they are used in Japan, and sometimes the Togishi recommend them. Quote

I still prefer the microdear, but as they are impossible to get hold of in UK these are adequate replacements. 1 Quote
Kronos Posted September 21, 2016 Report Posted September 21, 2016 Stephen was kind enough to take delivery of some microdear cloths for me and forward them on. I only use them for my full Polish blades, one to remove oil another to put oil on but they're far superior to normal microfiber cloths so worth it considering the cost of a full Polish. 1 Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted September 22, 2016 Report Posted September 22, 2016 Hi Gordon you asked: "Which one do you normally get http://www.selvyt.co...lishing-cloths/ ?" I always get size C from HS Walsh see this Link: https://www.hswalsh.com/product/selvyt-cloth-microfibre-size-%E2%80%9Cc%E2%80%9D-354mm-x-431mm-hp1253 Cheers Chaps 1 Quote
